My Story
In 2009, I moved from the cut and thrust of the banking world to the powerfully emotional world of psychotherapy. As I learned and grew as a psychotherapist, I found myself changing. Helping others as a psychotherapist was a wonderfully liberating feeling. I had no agenda other than to help the person in front of me in the way they wanted to be helped and it felt great. I had moved away from targets, office politics and ambition. I saw lives transformed from utter despair to ones that are rich and fulfilling.
Some years later I became aware of a nagging sensation within me. Whilst I love the deeply important work that happens in the therapy room, I missed the buzz of the business world. I started training new psychotherapists and supervising experienced ones, helping them learn and develop in their roles.
A chance conversation with a friend showed me that my mix of experience, training and skill-set meant coaching was the next obvious role to develop into. Coaching is more goal-oriented and future-focused than psychotherapy but to be an authentic and effective coach it was clear to me that a deep understanding of human psychology was crucial.
To coach effectively is to listen with purpose, to really hear what you say and to grasp a sense of what it feels like to be you. I didn’t want to learn a coaching system or a formula to apply in sessions. I wanted to build on what I already have to effect deep-rooted, powerful change in the person I’m with.
I undertook a rigorous, specialist coaching qualification and trained to “Senior Practitioner” level to ensure my coaching knowledge was of a high standard before adding in my decades of psychotherapy and business experience to what I offer.
As your coach, we can be goal focused and agree dynamic actions between sessions. We can also go deeper if useful, to understand what is holding you back and gain freedom from it. In short, we can work in a way that is flexible and receptive to the issues you bring, to your personality and to your goals.
I value being a coach and helping people gain freedom from limiting beliefs and past conditioning to achieve goals they never thought possible. If you think that we might be a good fit, let’s have a “chemistry” meeting to find out. Whatever you decide, I wish you every success in your life; whatever that means to you. Just as I continue to discover what “success” means to me.
